Harry & Edna performed at the Imperial War Museums 'War on Waste' exhibition in St James Park, London on a number of occasions during the exhibitions 2 year run. Then the exhibition relocated to the Cowper & Newton museum in Olney Buckinghamshire for the 2009 season.
Amanda Pickard, Cowper and Newton House Manager said "This is a real coup for us at the Cowper and Newton museum, it was Harry who suggested the move from St James Park to Olney and we are so proud it is here". Amanda then went on to explain "people do not often realise that we have such a wonderful garden at the museum, including a fantastic kitchen garden. During the Second World War, because food supplies were being attacked by the enemy it was very important for everyone to grow their own vegetable so the country did not starve. These vegetable plots where known as Victory Gardens during the war".
For the exhibition the kitchen gardens have been re designed into a modern and WW2 garden allotments, so the visitor can see the differences. The wartime allotment features such long forgotten varieties such as 'Home Guard' potatoes and 'Victory' carrots.
The exhibition does not stop in the garden, in one of the museums galleries there is a display called "War on Waste", another WW2 home front topic. Amanda said "We wanted to feature a historical display showing how people in the past beat their equivalent of the credit crunch".
