Portraying the Home Guard is a favourite of Harry's. He bases his impression around 1940 / 1941. A time when the Home Guard were a new fighting force and had a rather curious mix of official and improvised uniforms & weapons.

When in Home Guard uniform Harry is able to present the following scenarios / 'show & talks.'

'Bang on Target' is a popular visitor participation scenario based on target practise. Using a blank firing rifle Harry struggles to hit the target so a visitor is recruited to give Harry clear commands.

'Pack up your old kit bag' is a show & tell talk with Harry explaining all the items he will need in the field to protect his village from the enemy.

'The arms of the Home Guard' demonstrating Home Guard weaponry which ranges from WW1 rifles to pikes.

At events Harry & Edna can set up a Home Guard living history training encampment complete with WVS field kitchen.  Harry's Home Guard performance is featured on the Needles Old Battery webpage & Harry also played the Home Guardsman in the children's BBC programme Evacuation'.
