The scenario starts by explaining about the different types of incendiary bombs & the benefits to the homeowner of investing in a stirrup pump. This is followed by a practical demonstration based on a WW2 civil defence drill and because Mr Herbert Morrison says we need a million Fire Guards we appeal to the visitors to step forward for training. Harry then goes on to explain the fear of an enemy gas attack.

Using our tented civil defence encampment as a backdrop we recreate a civil defence gas exercise by turning the tent into a 'gas tent'. Using non tonic, bio-degradable smoke to fill the gas tent, the Civil Defence Wardens enter the tent one by one…..

It is an opportunity to explain the real fear of gas attacks in the early days of WW2, with a little hammy acting.

We can also combine the talk with a popular craft activity when younger visitors make their own gas mask out of cardboard and a plastic cup.

Because of our knowledge of the Blitz and Civil Defence UKTV History chose Harry & Edna to appear as the lead in a programme about
the Blitz
